Here's something you all might be interested in.

I just attended a local Field & Stream meeting which had a fellow from the Cle Elum National Forest as a guest speaker. The subject was regarding their opening a trail system for motorized use. He was very up front and appeared to really be wanting to get the word out of what they were looking into and did want public opinion.

What he did remind everyone was that the NF -is- open to motorized use, anywhere that it is not strickly prohibited. Its prohibited on -some- trails. Note, all motorized vehicles can go anywhere, anywhere, on FS land so long as they are not "damaging." The definition fits loosely. This means, off trail too.

They've found that the impact has hit a point where they have to do something.... What they are trying to do is minimize the impact on the environment by opening publicly, trails designed specific to motorized vehicles.

Take a look at this site, and keep monitoring it for dates/locations for public input. He said they'll be holding public meetings to discuss these issues and to gain input:

I'm not an activist in any way, it just got me concerned. And I did appreciate how it was presented and how open he was to listen to viewpoints. I hope that mentality continues.
