Walker Valley is by Mount Vernon. The easiest way to get there is take I-5 to the College Way exit in Vernon. Head east on College Way out of town for a couple miles. At the N/S junction with SR-9 (Big Rock Gas & Grocery), go south. Drive a few miles south to Big Lake golf course, go through S-curve at S end of course, take a quick left up the hill on Walker Valley Road. There should be a small sign for the park here. Go up Walker Valley Road for a few more miles, turn left on Peter Burns Road, which is marked with another sign. The main parking lot is about 2 miles in. A trail map is available at www.northerntoys.com.

just wondering when it re-opens for the summer?

Technically its not closed, but with logging going on, its affecting the Main Line Trail and according to the DNR there are still trees down over the 4wd access.

Dirt bike and ATV access is not as heavily affected (with the logging over the main line trail) as they have other means to access trails open to bike/atv, but they have also seen trail closures due to logging.

Are most of the trails open now?

Would it be worth the 1 hour drive or would we be better off driving 1hr 15 mins back to reiter again this weekend.

Thanks
Tony

last time i went a few months ago there werent very many trails, mostly really tight short wheel base ones. that werent much of a cahllenge. it was pretty lame. but if a bunch more have opened up maybe it will be decent.

Is the DNR going to come out with a new trail map after all the trails are finished?

The DNR plans to have a map that is regularly updated. However they need to finish up the trail modifications first.

There is a list of what is going on in the immediate future available here (http://www.northerntoys.com/WalkerValley/augustminutes.html).

Well if someone is serious about rocks to play on and the DNR will approve it my dad hauls rocks. He can carry 17 ton loads, which is some damn big rocks. He also has a friend who owns a quarry, that is not far from Walker. I am sure my dad would be all for it as long as he got a fair deal out of it. Let me know and I can have him contact whomever.

Tom Murley is the person to contact about the rocks.

Guy, I really appreciate you updating us, attending the meetings and supporting the work parties up there. Be sure to post when the next work party is and I will do my best to attend. As for the meetings, unfortunately living in Seattle and starting work at 6:30 don't make a good combo for me. Otherwise, I'd be there-I know how important it is to show the DNR we support them.

At this time it looks like DNR wants to do the work themselves. If I hear of a work party I'll post it to the board.

I know a lot of people would like some trails with a harder degree of difficulty to them, but at this time DNR wants to keep Walker Valley usable by the slightly modified short wheel based rigs.

If you email Tom or show up at the user group meetings and let him know what you want we just might convince them to add trails that are more difficult to run. :D
