Annual tradition with my wife and kids. We head up mtn loop highway, outside of GF and Verlot to cut a tree. There is sure to be snow, maybe too much... ;)

My BIL is planning on going, with his built scout. Anyone else want to go cut trees, do a little sledding, etc? We usually don't head out too early. Figure to be on Hwy 9 outside of snohomish around 9:30 or so, be to the ranger station in verlot around 10:15-10:30....

My BIL's is on the right (for those not familiar with mine on the left)

Where is the "mtn. loop Highway"? Still not too familiar with this area.

Yep. North on Hwy 9 out of Lake Stevens. East on Hwy 92 toward Granite Falls. Hit the four way red light at the East end of town, turn North, toward Verlot, and keep on going.... They plow it up to the pass until December, but the side roads are not plowed...

I just called, it is raining up there, freezing level is at 9000', so it is going to be soggy snow tommorrow. Weather service is saying spotty showers, so at least it might not be raining... no fun sledding in the rain... and even less fun cutting a tree.

Good news is that the deep snow off the highway may keep some of the minivans off the roads...

Don't know how many years I have gone up to cut trees, only to find someone has driven a *car* up a FS road, then stopped in the middle of the road when the snow got too deep, and wandered away to sled, cut trees, etc, completely blocking the road for those of us who were prepared for the conditions.... <sigh>

hey, I remeber dragging your parents mini-van up a hill a couple years ago :D :D

I went to Skycomish again this year... in the 2wd, 1-ton, FB work truck.... chain it up and it does pretty good in the snow... till you lose a chain.

makes it really easy to haul trees back, but the FS guys look at you funny (and talk to you) when you have a 12' deck and trees pooking out the back :redneck:

Luckly he was cool.

Yep. Couple years ago. It was sunny that day, as I recall..

Hmm, something about a 12' height limit for trees... ;)

They have never been to particular with me though. In fact, I've never so much as had a tag checked....
