Is there any decent trails up at Sultan Basin that aren't closed? Is High Rider open? Last time I was up there the only thing that really wasn't blocked off is that bog on the right in the woods, but I didn't go much past where the gravel starts? Do they get some decent snow there?

There is one trail, not very challenging and it was fairly overgrown allthough I know a few people last summer were trying to get in a clear it up.

Could be some snow.

As far as I know High Rider & Shaw Lake are still closed.

I took a walk up Shaw lake the other day. Oh brother. It's a highway!

You can see where the old trail (road) was, but it is gone now.

That one is done for sure.

It has more to do with blowing the dam up and washing sultan off the face of the planet...

Talked to a guy I know who went dirt bike riding back behind the gate to the dam and a half a dozen armed military men came out of nowhere and told him he needed to turn around. Thats probably what is stopping people (cause they are patroling) and on another note. It's not about wiping Sultan off the planet, its cause Spada is Everett's water supply.

At last time was up there couple weeks ago ALL gates were closed temp. by PUD. Thinking was mud slide down by resavoir. And don't get caught on any off trails there could be very costly$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to anyone caught on those trails.

I live on Sultan Basin, so I'm up there all the time. The trail to the top of Blue Mountain is still open, as is the "Valley" Trail just past the switchbacks on the right (across from the large, heavilly polluted and littered shooting area)

Recently, the roads down to the lake have been reopened during daylight hours, and the Gold Mine trail just to the right of the road down to the lake has been open during the day.

High rider is completely blocked off, due to damage done to the private radio/cell tower at the top.

Contrary to popular belief, Most of the Sultan Basin Rec area is privately owned, other than Spada Lake itself.

The first logging area (before Shaw Lake Trail) has been reopened, and the gate removed. However, the heavy windstorm brought down a buttload of tree across the road.

Your a little late dude, that shit happened at least a year ago.

FYI: The radio tower & equipment that were destroyed belonged to the Snohomish County PUD (Spada Lake Watershed).

The people responsible for the destruction did not use High Rider Trail to gain access but instead cut the gate on the main road with a saw.

......old news

It's called frustration. I know it happened a while ago. WHY would they do that?

And if they know that they used the gate why kill the Highriger?

Because Highrider was a way up to it...they have also reinforced the gate. The PUD manages the land, but the tower is owned by private corporation. According to the Ranger up there, the gate was cut by Poachers, which is a fairly common issue.

Aand as usual, its a real shame that the wheelers get blamed for everything!:lame:

Ive been told (by someone who did it) that there is a path around the gate up top, and that people do the trail from top to bottom, to top again now adays.

There is access orund the gate, but only a narrow, rock-crawler style (high articulation and mobility) rig would be able to make it around...and it'll cost ya BIG time if you get caught!

You've really piqued my interest with that statement. So can us average people drive down to and across the dam during the day? Is the top of the trail that goes down to the old Monroe Camp Road and comes out at the Lake Roseiger General Store accessible? I'm sure there is still a gate at the bottom of the trail, but the top is where all the fun was anyhow. It's not all that difficult or technical of a trail, or at least it wasn't 10 years ago, but I used to have a ton of fun up there and would love to check it out again.
