anyone have pics of a 74 or newer D44 6 lug spindle and a D44 8 lug spindle or a GM 10 bolt 6 lug spindle and 8 lug spindle?
trying to convert a 6 lug D44 to an 8 lug and maybe the GM 10 bolt 8 lug stuff will work also

Here's a pic of both a large bearing Jeep/Chevy spindle on the left, and a small bearing Jeep/Chevy spindle on the right.

ok thanks Chris.
so where are the bearings in relation to the spindle.

I am tossing around the idea af maybe just getting the 8 lug hub and rotor and maybe just finding a bearing/s that would work if I can get the sizes right.

I wonder if the spindles from the Ford 3/4 ton in my back yard would work? I'll measure them against mine from the J20 when I pull them. There are a couple types of D44 spindles I've seen so far. 6 bolts holding the Chev, Jeep and Dodge ones on and 5 on the Ford open knuckles I pulled.
All you need is the spindle to fit your current 6 bolt along with the rotors and backing plates. (The 10 bolt ones fit my D44 knuckle)

If I remember correctly, the inner bearing goes just outside (relative to the end of the spindle) the first large ridge, and the outside bearing goes just inside the threads.

I've assembled them before, just payed more attention to how things went together and wasn't really thinking about where on the spindle the bearings would be riding. ;)

There is a little bearing inside the back of the spindle the axle fits through, then one rides on the outer part of the back of the spindle (inside the rotor behind the seal) and one on the outside that has 2 nuts and a lock washer holding it on .

ok just got of the AutoZone web site and found that the inner bearings for the 83 cherokee with the D44 6 lug and a J-20 3/4 ton 8 lug (if I am asuming that the J-20 is a 3/4 ton) are the same, its the outer bearings that are different, different part numbers.
I wounder if I can go to one of these places and have a look see at the actual bearings.

The inner bearing has a larger inner diameter at the very least. (you can see the difference in the bulges right above where the seal sits on the spindle pics) I think the outer may be the same.
