One of the "Pirate" Vendors has a Sale going on for the D300 HD Tailshaft kits by TeraLow.

I ordered one on Monday and it arrived today.

If you've been thinking about this upgrade, now may be the time.

Is that because a new shorter version is coming out, hmm?

I know Novak will soon be releasing a very nice kit. Much shorter and cleaner looking. http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_300rx.htm

The price is more than double though.

is the upgrade longer than stock?

I don't think it's any longer than stock.

I just don't want to pull my t-case again!. If I do, it'll be for an upgraded intermediate shaft too, prolly.

I can measure it if you like.

It looks like the AA tailshaft kit. I believe it may be longer than the original by 1/2".

Im very happy with my AA 32 spline output shaft. compared to the tera it makes the tera look weak

Are you running a D300 or a NP231?

What's the difference between the two outputs?

Laurie,

Can you tell us what the differences are? Do you have any comparison measurements?

I'm curious to find out as I've not had the chance to compare the two side by side.

Thanks

I am kind of interested in the length of them both(new vs old) I am running the stock short output and am very interested in the $200 dollar price. I was thinking though it might not be worth the sacrifice in d-line length, or pinion angle. I am leaning towards the cheap longer one since my future(way far) plans are for an Atlas II and it is 2in longer than a long tailshaft d300 I think. If that is the case then the older cheap style would be worth it. Id like to know if anyone is having problems with failure of the tera one. If it is an issue with quality then no doubt I dont want one. I might see what I can dig up on a search.

I tried a search on Pirate and a general Yahoo search before I ordered it. Couldn't find much. The shop I ordered from is also an AA dealer and told me they look the same. (For whatever that is worth) If you find anything please let me know.

Do you mean that you have the single year short tailshaft Dana 300? If so, I don't think the Tera will fit.

The part doesn't look bad. I have only had a chance to look it over casually so far due to work. It does look like the tail cone casting could be de-burred a little better. I have not removed the tailshaft from the clear plastic that it is wrapped in yet.

This was a mod that I originally hadn't planned on doing but for $200 I decided to go ahead.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the input to the x-fer case 23 spline? Granted it has more support than the tail but where is the weak link now besides the output to the front?

Input side isn't an issue, there's (2.62 or 4.0 depending on gearing) multitudes less torque on it. That's why everyone pops the outputs. Also, there's no side-load on the input.

There's a new ultra-short tailhousing for the atlas that you can order when you get it, makes it the same length as a stock D300. There's also those awesome new short-tail D300's coming out, I've been waiting on a price for those.

With my new powertrain swap, I gained about an 2 inches of rear driveline!

I will definitely look into that. I know that AA has one that fits the short output, maybe these dont. I forgot all about the differences in that aspect. Mine is the one year short output, so if it doesnt fit then I will just wait and get my 3.8 Atlas maybe next year.
