Well the exhaust manifold is cracked pretty bad. Was wonderin if you have to take the intake manifold off too when you replace it? If so seems like it would be too complicated for me. Does anyone know of a good shop that would do it for a good price

The intake and exhaust are put on together. They share some bolts so yes they both have to come off.

It depends what year it is and the condition of the gasket when you take it apart. If the gasket is good, you can swap one w/o removing the other totally on most Renix rigs (I did that on my '87 Cherokee then discovered a crack in the block from freezing so I pulled the motor)

It's really not all that bad to pull them both out. I just did this on our '89 XJ a couple months ago. All the injector and sensor connectors unplug easy. The throttle linkage and fuel lines unhook easy too. Leave the fuel rails, injectors, and throttle body on the intake. You'll have to unbolt the PS pump and probably remove the air box to get a little more room to work.

The hardest part for me was getting to the lower manifold bolts. Not much room to get your hands in there.

If you take your time and pay attention to where everything goes, I bet you'll be able to pull it off. If you have a digital camera, take a few up close-up pictures of the motor so you have something to refer back to.

While you have it apart, take a close look at the freeze plugs. If they look corroded or really rusty, it would be a good idea to replace them now. Mine had one rust through and I couldn't replace it without pulling the manifolds.

I could help you out if you like, could do it on a weekend ( Sat.)
Got really good labor rates and if the manifold is fixable I can weld it back together here too. But sometimes its hard to fix a manifold after the fact because the metal is permiated with contaminates and the only good way to fix manifolds is to TIG weld it.
