A local kid with an 83(?) Toy is shopping for a cam and headers for Christmas. I don't know much about the 4-cylinder end of things, so I told him I'd try to find out the scoop.

The motor's pretty freshly rebuilt, but to stockish specs. It's a daily driver/wheeler on 32" swampers and he's running a later model tranny - I don't know which, but I think it's a 5speed. I also believe he's planning on adding a Weber carb soon as well.

What's good and what's not? For driveability? For power/torque? Where to buy?

Should the money go elsewhere besides the cam and headers? Possibly intake?

Thanks,
Eric

I hate to say it, but NWOR really has one of the nocest headers I have seen, and I have seen a# of different brands

For the cam, go with doa's c270 camshaft, seems about the best all around cam

I second that. The headers done my nwor are the only good thing they sell. That would be one sweet gift.

I've got a NWOR header on mine and wish I'd gotten an LC Engineering header instead. Their header is ceramically coated stainless steel so there's no need to worry about rusting out. Besides, I've grown to hate NWOR and would like to see that place go out business.:D

Thanks arnold, the LC is the only one I have yet to see, and haven't heard anything bad. And ceramic coating, YA BABY!

Its all about the 1/2 inch flange and the tri-y baby. Everyone else has a 4 to 1.

I went with a Crane Cam but I don't have a dyno so No noticable differance.
