i took a couple days and contemplated whether or not to write this but it's driving me nuts not saying anything. this last saturday a couple of friends of mine and myself enjoyed a great evening wheeling. later that night we met up with an un-named wheeling club who was having they're annual halloween night run. we sat around and were checking everbody's rigs out for awhile and met some great people and exchanged some numbers. this club and the people wheeling with them were (to quite my suprise) not very familiar with the trials so we offered to play trial boss for everybody. all went pretty well despite quite a few technical difficulties and some serious liquid enhanced driver stupidity. so you're probably wondering why i'm disturbed? well, by the time we finished the first trail it had been a few hours and over the course of those few hours i mostly walked the trials making sure everybody stuck together and helping people with picking lines. in these few hourse i personally picked up approx 18 beer cans off the trail! follow that? 18 on one damn trial! we're not talking about the occassional one that's fell out of all of our trucks on accident. so this message goes out to that certain club; before you go pointing your finger at fellow wheelers about taking care of the environment and telling them they should watch what they say, why don't you practice what you preach! what you don't realize is that you stain the reputation of other wheeling clubs that do try they're best to take care of the environment. i understand that a lot of the rigs on the trail that night weren't members, but i doubt it would have been real hard to make sure the non-familiar people knew how a DNR friendly club should act. so if you wanna go throw sh*t on the ground that's fine with me, just don't do it in our playground!

p.s. for those of you who were there that night and had a good time and respected the trails. thank you. i'd love to go wheelin again.

Some times its hard to bring matters up like this, in fear of bashing/so forth. But if its "fact" then how can the point be argued?

yeah, it's pretty sad. it especially tweaks me cause i walked on foot through the whole trail helping them out so they wouldn't totally trash they're rigs. kind-of hard not to take it personally even though i know i shouldn't. i really need to put an emphasis on the fact that it wasn't all of them. there were a few really cool people there.

I must start with, I was helping the trail boss guide, tow, winch and push, this rather large group, through the one and only trail they ran.
I have to agree with all that was said regarding the new people we met that night. Some were seasoned wheelers, however, there were a few new wheelers in the group were very polite and eager to learn about four wheeling. These few I would enjoy wheeling with again, however, I hope that they didn't observe the bad trail manners they were exposed to as this would be the wrong message to send to the next 4x4 generation. Especially when it comes to keeping trails open.

Pack it in-- pack it out.

First off I must say that after reading about what happend I could very well understand why a person would be upset. I must also remind people that there is always going to be two sides to every story. But, thats not the piont I would like to get across. My point of view is that we all love to 4wheel, and in doing so we must also take care of the trails we are on. But it will not help a situation by pointing fingers and saying things like (" he said" or "that group did this!"). You see when people point fingers it causes other people to defend thier actions. We all have picked up trash on the trail, even if we know who put it there. Thats more than most people would do. I know that when I pick up trash on the trail it makes me mad but why get mad. you know you just did the right thing and that is all that matters.

P.S.
I know I cant speak for everyone.
But from me to all of you that keep trails clean.
THANK YOU!

I agree with you, but people need to be held accountable for their actions, espicaly when said actions may have an adverse effect on others.

Littering ba$tard$. The only way to fix the problem is to confront it when it happens. If you see "Mr. unknown" on the trail throwing his or hers junk out, call them on it. It doesn't have to come in the form of a stoning, or lynching if it is taken care of right then and there. Ask them how they would like it if you drove on their lawn at their house and downed a suitcase of confederate ice beer and tossed all of the cans in the yard?

Then again, I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why they were compelled to hurl the empties on to the trail... Mapping the trail maybe????

If you have a description of the offending vehicle/persons e-mail it to me and I'll contact the appropriate person in my club to go have a talk with these yahoos.
Yes I am still a member but live so far away I haven't been to a club run in over a year.
The core of the club is a group of good friends of mine and I know they wouldn't approve of this kind of crap. As with any club you get a fairly large amount of high turnover "noobies" who need to be educated about wheeling, LITTERING, trails, trail edicut(spelling?), etc. Usually these people aren't even part of the club yet and are just going on a few runs to "try it out".

Litterbugs suck! And I get really pissed when I see it up there cause I've been to too many damm workpartys to pick up tons (literally) of garbage all the way from the beginning of the north fork road to the gravel pits and the trails. Godammit now I'm pissed OFF!

BTW, if you were wheeling with "the club" but aren't a member, how do you know that these scumbag litterbugs who were also wheeling with the club were members?

One other thingthis club and the people wheeling with them were (to quite my suprise) not very familiar with the trials so we offered to play trial boss for everybody. Everybody that is a core member of that club knows those trails like the back of their hand...they built them. So if these people didn't know the trails then I really doubt they were club members.

I guess there are a couple of things that I would like re-emphasize. I AM NOT pointing fingers at the Rainer Ridge Rams! I really do believe that all of the littering parties were not just club members. The message I was trying to get across was that when you take the stand of calling yourself a "club" that there will be just as many downfalls as perks. This I'm sure Rainer has found out over the years. Everybodys intentions were the same that night. Go out, have a good time, and do some good wheelin. I guess I'm just asking everyone to be respectful when doing it. I'm not going to name specific names or rigs. What's the point? Those people know who they are. Despite what everyone seems to think I'm not out to bash on specific people or specific clubs. When it all comes down to it, we're all wheelers and just want to enjoy the trails. I guess we all just have to be careful of who we associate ourselves with. Happy wheeling and be safe.

First of all, lots has changed at North Fork, there are new trails that WERE NOT built by Rainier. Lets just listen and learn and atttempt to not pass judgement.
