Well so far im about 2000$ into the swap but things are going very well. Ive just finished putting my fornt axle together minus the locker. Im going to hold out and find a used ARB or wait until i can get the same Electric locker front and rear. Here are some pic's of the axle.
High Pinion Dana 30 from a 93 Jeep XJ with 4.88 gears
new 760x u joints, ABS, Sloted Rotors, New Calipers, Ceramix Pads, Billet axle seals.

I don't want to piss on your cheerios, but why on earth would you choose a dana 30 for a swap, then proceed to dump a bunch of money into it?

I had a few options but the D30 for me was the best one. We all know its not the strongest axle in the world. But when used within its limits its going to work just fine. Im not going validate my decision to anyone. It's what im using so, its what im using. There are a few things that should be upgraded in them anyways so i went ahead and did that. Thanks for our support and or ideas.:flipoff: Might have been a little more intresting to ask some questions about application before dogging someones work.

I did'nt read about anyone dogging your work...
Just asking why you would choose a Dana 30...chill out:rolleyes:
What are you looking to do with that Ranger of yours...just getting rid of the IFS or planning on some light wheeling?

They weren't doggin the work dude, they were dogging the fact of using a weak axle. You have to remember there are a few of us, who have gone thru the ranks, distroyed stuff and upgraded, so thats where that comes from, called experiance... Use what you choose, its your rig, but have to remember, if you didn't want negative responses, you should not have posted ...
So, how about some more info on the SAS..

Yes your are very right about the posting and getting negative responses, there is quiet a bit of ananimity on the internet so from my posts in forums where i have an healthy amount of info i try to gather more info before i speak even slightly negative. But enough of that, this is my first SAS ive done so there are many lessons to be learned. The goal of the truck is to get rid of the IFS and gain some lift at the same time for some moderate weekend wheeling, since this is a daily driver i am still trying to keep as many good aspects of the trucks original state. Big thing for me was keeping the ABS i felt it worked very well on a light truck and since i plan to be in the snow alot this winter i like that added help of ABS not to mention if the girlfriend is driving the truck i want it to act somewhat behaved. The tires will be 37x12.5r15 MTR's. Little big for the D30 but with upgraded axles for the amount of wheeling it will do it should be fine if not i work with it. The lift is comming from a Jeep TJ RE Long arm kit with custom shock/spring towers using 14" Bilstien shocks and 5.5" Grand Cherokee lift springs. Rear is using a 4" Block and 4" leaf spring lift until custom springs are ready. Total lift should be in the 8 - 10 inches. Plus the 3" body lift. Steering will be done with a Toyota IFS steering box that has been taped for use with a RockLogic hydro assist ram. In conjuction with an Onboard air system. Thats pretty much it will have the norms, winch and such but its just a fun truck to build and then take to Moab for the Easter run next year.

Looks pretty clean. Weld your caps in, and carry spare shafts.

D30 w/37" tires....it'll be fine for lite wheelin & daily driving use. I wouldn't bother with the extra $$$$ for alloy shafts just use stock ones weld the caps, it's been done alot on this board w/great success, and carry a spare set, there cheap.

Ummmm, I can say for a fact that they hold up to more than that. ;) But yeah, either weld the caps, or periodically check that the caps aren't working their way out, and replace the C-clips when they do. Having a set of spare shaft assemblies in the back of your rig is a good insurance policy (mine will be for sale shortly if you're interested).
