Toyota timing?

Hey does any one know what deg. toyotas are to be timed to? Mine is at 8 but still diesels after I shut it off.

That should be right but make sure your idle speed is right while checking timing. As rpm's go up so does timing

Timing isn't causing the run on. Your idle is too high or you have a vacuum leak and carbon buildup in the motor. You can advance till it pings, then back it down past the point it starts and THEN adjust your idle, etc. Sounds like the idle circuit in your carb has been bypassed or is clogged open

there is no carbon buildup. Just rebuilt the darn engine. I will check the idle speed though thanks.

Well mike it ran fine today so I guess it's just being the bitch she is. It's just a plane jane 87 22r. I replaced the bearings and a valve, seals and all gaskets.it is bored .20 mm over I think. Factory carb. oh ya and I can't find the other end of my O2 sensor that goes from the sensor to the truck. Thats been a mystery for a while.:sad:

I've seen 22R's equipped w/ California emissions running 02 sensors.:)

my 84 has a single wire o2. id take a pic but its too cold. wahhh and its not a cali spec motor

It came with an o2 sensor in the manifold but no plug or wire from the truck to the sensor. weird.:confused:
