I'd just weld it up. Spend the money you'll save on other stuff. I've seen a lot of guys running welded carriers and they've held up just fine.

I say spool, just to let you know I do know some guys who run welded rears but they're 14bolts, but welding the spiders weakens the metal making them more brittle....... yer call dude, do it right once or spend more later....... just my $.02

My 44 rear is welded, running 36s, no problems in 2 years. If it ever breaks though I will go spool.

do a search, I'm sure this discusion has been had several times?
Spool it though. Why replace you r&p twice! Assume that if it can happen it will happen.

On the old board there was a thread. Well it is welded now. Thanks for all of the input. I removed the carrier and completely cleaned all the oil out and then degreased it, before welding. I will know with in 2 weeks if this is the ticket or not. Thanks again.

I was going to say if you want to feel what a welded axle is like to pop across the gulley between us and try the '79 Cherokee! <G>
Its a no brainer unless your changing gears. Weld it and make sure you get all the poopy droops off the ring and pinion.

i say fuggit, weld it. i gots tha ass end of my yota dd welded with no probs, other than the occasional tire squeel around corners. that's cool though, cuz i gots no horn, and it gets the attention of honeys at intersections
