Wild sky, we need help

Ed hussmann is the guy whois basically heading up the fight against wild sky, and what he needs, is something very simple, he needs LETTERS!!!!!!

He needs either hand writin, or typed letters that are signed..

Its very simple, and can be writen by anybody.

*who you are, where you live, how long you have lived there, what recreational activities you participate in, ect...
*Address the issue as HB 822 and S 391
*close the letter with thanking them for reviewing your letter, ect
*make sure your name, address and phone # is there
*IMPORTANT after your signature, CC to the following
Senetors Murry, Cantwell, Craig, Domenici
Reps Inslee, Baird, Hastings, Nethercutt, Dicks, McDermott,Dunn, Smith & Pombo

Its important we do this, this is the best ammo for the fight, and once you are done, please send them to

Crash - if I remember correctly, the original (signed) letters need to go to one of the senators/rep's (can't remember which off the top of my head), and a copy needs to go to Ed, right?

At the meeting I asked Ed to email the guidelines document to me so I could host it online, but I haven't heard from him yet. Anyone know his email address so I can send a friendly reminder? I was also going to chat w/ him about building an anti-
Wild Sky website...

Ed also mentioned the petitions. My scanner isn't working so if someone else could scan in the forms and post them that might help the cause.

Can letters be sent via e-mail? The easier we can make it, the more response we'll get.

I didn't see this posted on JU. Will cross-post.

If you look at the last line it says "Keep this area as it is; recreationally accessible, wild and at additional cost to the taxpayer."
Should it not read "At NO cost to the taxpayer"

Roger that, thanks. :) Both files are now updated; if you view the HTML file and the old version is in your cache, hit F5 to refresh.

I saved the Word version in Word '97 format so more people will be able to view it. If you have any troubles let me know...

Below is the text of an op ed in todays Everett Herald. I agree that we need to contact Rep. Dunn but for a different reason. I have already sent her an email asking her to oppose the designation and will follow up this weekend with a hand letter to her asking the same. If this legislation goes through, even thought the area does not meet the criteria of a Wilderness area, then other areas will follow. Areas like the scenic Manastash ridge, Evans Cr. etc. Lets stop this train now. If you send a letter, send a hard copy to Ed Husmann also.

" Dunn's effort needed to finally pass Wild Sky

It might seem a bit early to celebrate the success of the Wild Sky
Wilderness bill passing the Senate -- again -- when it won't come
before the House until next year. But it's not too early to start
encouraging Republican members of our delegation in the House
to get ready to push the legislation through once and for all.

Successful legislation often takes a great amount of time and a lot
of misery to work its way through Congress before it ends up
being signed into law. Remember the Schoolhouse Rock jingle,
"I'm just a bill. Yes, I'm only a bill. And I'm sitting here on Capitol
Hill"? Wild Sky should have a tiny advantage because it has
bipartisan support and has even received a "pass it and we will
sign it" OK from a senior Bush administration official who touted
the bill's cooperative efforts and results. But today, it's "still just a
bill."

By now, many people here are at least familiar with the name Wild
Sky, if not with the details of the bill. It's 106,000 acres of roadless forest land in east Snohomish County and part of King County that will be protected by the pending legislation while still remaining inviting to people who participate in a variety of outdoor activities. It is the work of Rep. Rick Larsen and Sen. Patty Murray and passed the Senate recently with the help of Sen. Maria Cantwell, who also serves on the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee which approved it earlier this year.

Now Wild Sky needs the help of Rep. Jennifer Dunn, a co-sponsor
of the bill in the House. Dunn must use her influence in the
Republican-controlled House to see this non-political bill through
the final stages. In fact, the only thing political about this bill is the
fact that Larsen and others have acknowledged they need Dunn's
help to see this come to fruition.

There's no excuse to wait on this any longer -- not even the fact
that Murray's Senate seat is up for election next year. It was
bipartisan before and it is bipartisan still. "

I find the description "106,000 acres of roadless land" interesting. I guess if you only count asphalted roads, then it works. Logging roads apparently are not roads.
Anyway, lets keep the pressure up.
