People interested in the ORV Noise Solutions Project,

In 2006, the state Legislature passed a bill directing the Office of the Interagency Committee (OIAC, a state agency) to review existing laws regulating ORV noise and provide recommendations on equipment for enforcement, model ordinances, education, and a grant program.

To assist with this effort, OIAC appointed an advisory committee and hired a consulting firm to undertake research on laws in Washington and other states affecting ORV noise, conduct public workshops, develop an on-line questionnaire, draft a model ordinance, and make recommendations.

ESA-Adolfson Associates and a subcontractor specializing in acoustics, Geomatrix Consultants, Inc., have now completed their work and OIAC would like your feedback on their final report.

- You may download a copy of the report by following this link http://iac.wa.gov/Documents/IAC/Grants/NOVA/orv_noise_solutions_proj.htm

- Or contact Amie Fowler at AmieF@iac.wa.gov (360-902-3086) for a hardcopy.

Please send us your feedback by 5 pm, January 2, 2007 after which time we will compile all comments for presentation to the 2007 Legislature along with the Adolphson/Geomatrix report.

For further information on the ORV Noise Solutions project, please feel free to contact me.

Any idea where a guy could go to get his rig tested? Im curious what dba my truck would be at now, after reading that report I would assume Im probably over the limit as my truck is usually the loudest on the trail, and if I could pass then I wouldn't see a problem with the implementation of these ideas because if I pass I would assume that the majority of people would pass.

all in all I would be interested in getting the truck sound tested, I know in Oregon at the dunes theres generally a sheriff posted that will administer a voluntary test (which is better then gettng busted on the sand and getting the ticket.)

There used to be testing at WV before events put on by SMC, I believe one or more of their members have testing equipment. You could contact skagit motorcycle club and see if someone would be willing to test your rig.

I dont know if the E&E officer for the DNR has one locally or not.

The current level of 105 dba is really loud. However, I bet there are a lot of street bikes (road pigs) that are easily that loud after the owners modify the exhaust. Regardless of the max. level chosen, enforcement is going to be a nightmare if they choose anything but "near the tailpipe" test.
