I have been a committee member for the past 4 years, its a great opportunity to learn about grants and how they are written for anyone who would like to someday write a grant - there always seems to be way more non-motorized project grants written than for motorized, so the 50/50 allotment, ends up giving some of the motorized money to the non-motorized, so here is your chance to apply to get one of the open committee positions that reviews grants yearly.
National Recreational Trails Program Advisors Sought
Greetings! The state Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation (IAC) needs three volunteers to serve on a committee that provides advice on policies and funding for backcountry trails. Persons selected to receive this email are on at least one of the following IAC mail listings: NOVA and NRTP interests or advisory committees, WWRP-Trail program interest, and applicants. To change your listing, please contact Patty Dickason (pattyd@iac.wa.gov)
There is one position each, available on the National Recreational Trails Program Advisory Committee, for candidates that represent the point of view of:
§ Snowmobile recreationists.
§ Hiker recreationists.
§ Four-wheel drive vehicle recreationists.
Appointed members will serve from February 2007 through December 2010. The program provides grants to local, federal, and state agencies and nonprofit organizations to help maintain backcountry trails for motorized and nonmotorized recreation. It also supports trail safety and environmental education grants. NRTP has been an important source of grant funding in Washington since 1994 and in recent years had provided more than $1 million annually in trail assistance. Through the years, the advisory committee has helped provide guidance for funding over 300 projects.
The ideal candidate: l has a statewide perspective, l is recognized for trail experience, l has a good grasp of trail issues, l has the resources to fully participate in committee activities, and l helps IAC attain a committee that represents the state's diversity. We especially seek persons that can show the support of those in the category represented.
Past members may reapply. NRTP committee members may hold membership in organizations that submit NRTP grant applications to IAC.
When the budget allows travel expenses are provided. Generally, members attend one weekday meeting a year and spend about 20 hours at home evaluating projects for funding each July and August.
To apply for membership on the committee, send a completed application and support materials to IAC no later than January 19, 2007. Applications and more information is available online at: <http://www.iac.wa.gov/iac/grants/nrtp_advisory_com.htm> or by contacting Lorinda Anderson at 360-902-3009 (Telephone Device for the Deaf, 360-902-1996) or lorindaa@iac.wa.gov <mailto:lorindaa@iac.wa.gov>
