"Just a quick note to let you know that YOU made a huge difference in Olympia
this year during the legislative session.
ALL of the Bills we (the motorized users) were against ("CON") died with
your help during this last session!!! We actually helped two very good,
Pro-OHV things get passed via bill 2617 and the Governor has signed them
into law.
OHV Parks can now charge up to $20 per day WITHOUT incurring liability for
injuries, etc. to users. This was a huge WIN as ORV parks would soon cease
to exist and Straddleline would not have been able to remain open without
this relief from liability!
This same bill now allows Counties and Cities (with some limitations) to
designate County and City roads as allowable for unlicensed OHV use. This
was done so businesses close to OHV areas can get their local government to
allow OHVs to travel directly to their businesses, on the designated roads.
Yes, there were some concerns that the $20 per day fee might allow other
agencies to charge OHV users $20 per day. However, Cary Condotta and his
staff have reviewed the potential effect of the final language and assured
all of us that will not happen. Cary sent us an email stating, "The amended
language is better than we thought.." He also stated, "I have talked
directly to DNR and they have no interest in trail head fees. They also made
it clear this amendment would not allow them to do so. The rest of this bill
is vastly important and will be a major win for all of us." in an earlier
email.
You can read all the details for yourself at;

Representatives Kretz, Blake, Ahern, Schindler, Sump, Condotta, Holmquist,
Kristiansen, Serben, Campbell, McDonald, Hinkle, & Dunn were the sponsors
of this bill. Senator Hargrove's amendment was the one which added the
relief from liability for ORV Parks. You will be receiving a notice to send
them a Thank You email shortly if one of them is your personal
Representative. Please be sure to do that if you are notified via a CLOUT
alert.
You can also look up exactly how your personal WA Representatives and
Senator voted during this last session, an IMPORTANT thing to know as this
is an Election Year!! Go to; http://www1.leg.wa.gov/legislature/
Folks! This is the first time since the early 1970's that I have seen
PRO-OHV bills pass and Anti-OHV bills die. Yes, I was riding dirt bikes way
before then!
YOU ARE making a REAL DIFFERENCE in Olympia and we only have about one half
of 1 percent of the OHV users in WA State participatiing!
Just think what WE could do in Olympia for OHV in WA State IF we had even
10% of the OHV users participating. WE could get almost anything we wanted
out of Olympia if we had that much participation. Let's DO IT!
Tell your OHV friends how easy it is to make a difference so they will sign
up for CLOUT and help us make a difference. All they have to do is send an
email to clout@hpgmc.com with their name and voting zip code. It just
doesn't get any easier than this!
Be sure to give YOURSELF a big pat on the back for a JOB WELL DONE in 2006!
Just remember the next legislative session starts with the new year and this
game is NEVER over.

PS - Those of you in and around Snohomish County owe yourselves another big
pat on the back for recently getting a PRO-OHV County Ordinance PASSED
thereby paving the path to getting Reiter Trails designated as an official
OHV area!! WAY TO GO!!"
