Hello to all ORV contacts!

Thanks to an IAC grant and your support DNR has recently hired a new trails manager for Walker Valley ORV Area. As you may know for the last couple of years Walker Valley has been without the benefit of the full-time attention it requires to meet the needs of the ORV community. So please welcome our new trails manager Elyse Fleenor when you see her at Walker Valley. The rest of this message is from Elyse introducing herself. Have a safe and fun time riding this spring and summer! Jim Cahill, Public Use Manager, DNR.

Hello Walker Valley ORV users;

My name is Elyse Fleenor and I would like to introduce myself to you as the new Walker Valley ORV Trails Manager and tell you a little bit about my background with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

I have worked for DNR since 1994. Since that time I have held a variety of different positions, ranging from crew lead on trail maintenance and construction crews doing work on ORV trails and non-motorized trails to campground maintenance and other construction projects. For the past several years I have operated a wildland fire engine for the DNR in the summer fighting forest fires. During the winter I worked in Walker Valley on trail improvement projects, including working with user group volunteers.

The winter work in Walker Valley has given me the opportunity to learn the trail system and what you, the users of the system, find enjoyable and challenging about the area.

The work that I will be doing is funded by a grant from IAC (Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation) with a match provided by DNR and volunteers. This grant was made possible by a lot of support from you, the users, and your clubs. I plan to work closely with the Walker Valley ORV Advisory Group that is made up of dedicated ORV volunteers and club representatives. So don't be surprised if you should hear from me as I begin to organize volunteer projects. Much of the success of this grant will depend on your volunteer support so please let me know of trail maintenance projects that you or your group would like to take on.

I look forward to working with all of you as projects are identified at Walker Valley. If you have any questions or concerns you can send me an email at elyse.fleenor@wadnr.gov or work with your club or user groups through the Walker Valley ORV Advisory Group to get back to me. You can also call and leave me a message at 360-856-3500.

Thank you, and I hope to see you out on the trails!
Elyse Fleenor
