Went to the meeting last night with Guy and thought I should post some updates reguarding trail closures and what is being worked on.
Mainline is the only open trail for 4x4 usage.
Mainline is the official name for the Cavanaugh Conversion trail, also known as the new one that a ton of people helped build the bridge on. As of right now it is the only trail open for 4x4 usage. This does limit the runs available for Walker Valley but it's for a good cause. The rest of the trail system is currently under repair.
Please stop pulling the rocks out of the shoefly to get into the Mainline Trail. If you can't fit you shouldn't be in there. People have started dragging the rocks out to allow larger rigs past the shoefly. Probably not anyone on this board, just putting the word out. If you can't get past the shoefly, your too big for the trail.
Now onto the boring parts.
DNR People:
Jim Cahel - New person in charge of the ORV area.
Josh Kelly - Leads WCC Work Crew.
Rick Foster - Old WCC Crew leader. Now in Casey's old spot.
Elyse Lemie? - Another WCC crew leader. Spells name with a y instead of an i. This is only noticeable because the Lotus Elise is spelled with an i. I am sorely temped to go in debt for way to long to get one of those. Except I won't fit in it which takes the fun out of getting one of the best sports cars ever made.
Representatives from NW Quad, Skagit Motorcycle and Northern Toys where there to support the end users.
The Capitol Improvement Grant for building new trails is good until November 05. However the Maintanence Grant is only good until March.
Work on improving/fixing trails has gone slower then expected due to the paperwork that had to be filed. DNR does not own most of the land, it is leased from the State. Most of the permits are in place to move forward with the planned trail repairs/reconstructions.
Poop Chute is under slash, and closed anyway. Water is going to be diverted so it doesn't fill up and cause sediment issues. There will be a new entry put in from B1300.
Upper Jeep trail has had some work done to it, but needs quite a bit more. The road into it is closed anyway, as is Poop Chute. The reason for the long closure was another logging crew coming in and taking their sweet time to finish a job. DNR wanted to delay fixing the previous issue until the second crew was done.
Eventually all the land north of Pat's Trail will be closed. A new entry path for the Upper Jeep Trail will be put in. Possibly using the upper half of Pat's Trail.
The hill at the end of Jeep Trail/Expressway will be taken out. A new trail to get to Poop Chute will be added.
The road North of the Staging lot for Walker Valley is still closed. There are plans to re-open it, Jeep Trail will probably open at the same time.
Jeep Cross is getting a new entrance. The current one is full of water and the state would appreciate if it was taken care of. Please stay off it until the new entrance has been put in and the water issue taken care of. New entryway may involve useing lots of big rocks.
The sign grant is going forward, the Carsonite signs are looking good. They are currently in use on the Mainline trail. Various trail names around the ORV area need to be finalised in order to be properly labled.
Adding Rock play areas for 4x4's and Trail bikers was discussed. General concensus is that it would be a good idea.
DNR has aquired access to some new land, looks good for future trail additions. New trails are covered in Phase 2 of the trail project. Everything covered so far is Phase 1.
Any spelling/grammar mistakes found in this document are a figment of your imagination and should be treated as such.
